Paints and coatings materials

Analysis of emissions and ingredients

Paints and coatings are available for a wide variety of application ranges and substrates: from facades to floors, on wood, metal or concrete. Most of the time coatings are used to protect the substrate from damaging influences, such as water, sunlight or even fire.

Besides the protective function of paints and coatings, their decorative effects also play an important role. But no matter what the intended purpose is, for successful results the characteristics of the coating must be perfectly attuned to its specific goals. Besides elasticity, hardness and degree of gloss, these include also properties that are essential for application: drying time, viscosity and flow are just a few examples. Health and environmental aspects play an increasing role. The permissible content of hazardous, volatile substances in coating materials is being constantly reduced and will eventually be entirely eliminated and the products must be tested accordingly. Many substances that were once considered harmless are now classified as hazardous for health or the environment.
